Here in the Tetons, it’s winter for at least 5 months of the year. Winter is such a stunning time to elope—there’s tons of snow, the trees are sparkly in the sunlight, and wildlife is everywhere. If you’re planning an elopement in Jackson Hole or Grand Teton National Park (or anywhere snowy and cold!), keep reading for some tips on how to have the best day:
Dress warm! There are sneaky ways to layer up and still have the bridal look you’ve always dreamed of. Fleece leggings are my favorite way to add warmth and coziness—and under an A-line dress, they’ll never be noticed. Wool socks and snow boots are also an easy way to keep warm and again, they’ll hardly be seen. Up top, add a fur shawl or a down puffy coat and some ear muffs. For the groom? Easy—just add some wool base layers under his suit!
Stock up on hand warmers (and toe warmers!) These are true life-savers when its brutally cold. Add them to your boots, in your mittens, in your pockets, or just in your bare hands. Just shake them to activate and in no time your fingers and toes will be thawing out!
Plan fun winter activities! Let’s go snowshoeing, nordic skiing, dog sledding, or (my favorite) for a hot springs soak on the day of your elopement. Remember, it’s your day—you can do whatever you want! Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t still have some epic adventures.
Make a bonfire. My favorite element to add to a winter elopement day is a bonfire. Bring stuff to roast s’mores, a thermos of your favorite hot drinks, and cozy up by the fire to wind down after a big day. Not only will it keep you warm, but the photos look pretty cool too! Just be sure to follow any local fire regulations.
Plan for any weather. Winter climates are no joke, and the most important thing to be is flexible and adaptable. Road closures, blizzards, and subzero temps are all real possibilities, so be ready with a Plan B (and C) and be ready to roll with the punches. At the end of the day, what truly matters is being married to your person, and I promise it will be beautiful no matter what.
